CWL explores the space between the self and the persona how identity can shift, multiply and transform through what we wear.

Drawing from ritual, mythology, psychology and contemporary culture, the mask becomes more than an object. It becomes a way of questioning who we are, who we perform, and who we might become.

Materials are not simply chosen for how they look, but for what they can express.

CWL LAB experiments with textiles, found and repurposed materials, organic forms and unconventional techniques exploring how texture, structure and imperfection can shape an object’s identity.

Upcycling is an integral part of this process. Existing materials, fragments and discarded elements are reimagined and transformed into new forms, allowing their previous lives to become part of the work.

Through making, testing and transformation, material itself becomes part of the research process.

Across cultures and histories, masks have existed between identity and transformation used in ritual, theatre, ceremony and performance.

CWL LAB investigates this relationship through the body: how wearing an object can alter movement, presence and perception.

The mask is approached not simply as something that conceals the face, but as an instrument that can construct a character, activate the body and create another way of being.

Research at CWL LAB does not remain theoretical.

Ideas, materials and experiments are developed through prototypes, wearable objects and spatial studies allowing research to evolve into masks, costumes, installations and performance.

Each outcome can become the starting point for another question, continuing the cycle of experimentation and transformation.
